There are three types of scientific explanations: those involving cats, those involving dogs, and those that aren’t very interesting. Via Andrew Revkin, here’s a well-done animation that uses a dog to explain the difference between a long-term trend and a short-term variation.

There is still a bit of snow falling. From radar one can see that it is just the usual lake effect snowfall not another storm. It does look pretty so I include a picture.



And no that road is not plowed! It used to be better when a neighbor was head of the City Counsel. They plowed him out and by happenstance this street got plowed out in record time. He lost last election so no more fast plowing.

I made it through two days of teaching this week but mostly slept yesterday recovering from those two days. A long weekend now as the school celebrates MLK Day on Monday. I'm hoping that I can make it through a slightly shortened next week.

Miss Thing (aka Romy) had a very trying week as well and rests from her labors.

I was clearing junk out of my school email and discover an email that gave the final registration numbers. Comparing last Spring with this we are down nearly 3k students. It has been a while since LCC had only 19,000 students (unduplicated head count).

I wondered why it was so easy to find a parking place.
