I have a number of late flowering plants by my front steps, particularly a perennial salvia and a sedum that are usually covered with all sorts of bees at this time of year. There were actually two bumble bees on them as I came home. The first I have seen in weeks. I understand there are problems with honey bees, but where have all the other bees gone.
For many years there have been bumble bee hives under my garden shed. My yard is prime habitat with the diverse garden I have. It makes me sad that something has happened to these inhabitants of my yard. I leave them alone even though I am severely allergic to them because they are necessary.
