I filled my large recycle dumpster and a couple of garbage bags cleaning out my home office. There are also four boxes of stuff to go to Goodwill in the back of my car. I feel like I actually accomplished something. Of course, my dining room table is covered with unsorted stuff. I've turned the corner but have not yet completed the task.
Cami and I had every intention of seeing a movie this afternoon. The weather went from sunny at 2pm to dark and cloudy at 3pm. I headed down Pennsylvania ran into a closed road, went over to Cedar and then back to Pennsylvania where it started really raining. The rain was coming down so hard that driving became impossible and I pulled over. There were already lakes in the road. Needless to say we sat in a QD parking lot. Lots of wind, lots of water with some flooding. We decided to get some Phad Thai.
Getting back to the neighborhood there was evidence of wind damage. Lots of lightening and we saw a cell tower get hit multiple times. According to the weather beans we got 1 1/2" to 8" in a half hour depending where you were.
I had to drive through East Lansing yesterday. The town was full of uHaul van, trailers and trucks. It is moving into campus housing weekend for big Green students. Arrghhhh!!
Today we skirted the campus on way to brunch and again with lots of people who don't know where they are going.
It is always sad when the students return. EL is always so nice in the summer. Oh well another school years begins.
I'm celebrating not be at the Department meeting, or the Division meeting or any other college function EVER AGAIN.
We drove down to Ann Arbor to go to Zingerman's. It was $4 off sandwiches with a t-shirt day.
The trip down was uneventful except for road construction which in the summer is a given.
We couldn't make up our minds so we ordered three sandwiches cut in quarters.
We took half the loot home so it wasn't a caloric disaster. Meatball sandwich, porchetta sandwich and a sopresata-goat cheese-honey grilled. The last was a wonderful surprise.
The toys are sorted and packed and home. All paper has been dealt with and sorted as to recycle or shred before recycling. All books have been sorted most are staying and a few are coming home.
There are some things going to Goodwill but I do one last sweep (!!) of desktop tomorrow.
All the artwork will come home tomorrow.
I am currently playing fetch with Fiona. She dug out one of her spring toys and I am the monkey with the arm. Mainly Clown cats (or at least my Maine Coons) think that fetch is the best game. Eoin used to catch projectiles out of the air. Fi just chases her spring.
Cami and I went to see The Hundred Foot Journey today. Excellent movie!
I've been meaning to comment on the urban farmer a few blocks over. He started with chickens and then added bees. His hives are on the roof of the one story house extension. We drove by sometime last week and noticed he had goats. I went looking and it seems that his goats no longer reside at his house. (They were dwarf Nigerian goats FWIIW.) He and others are working to make them legal but at the moment they are not so they had to move.
After over 30 years of collecting stuff I need to clean out my office at school as it is no longer mine after August 18th. It needs be be sorted into take home, recycle paper, "recycle paper must shred" and junk. It was amazing how much of the paper because "hurrah I don't have to deal with this shit any more -- recycle.
The books I don't want are staying as I have no room or use for them at home. The Chair recommended I just leave them to the program as most are software or reference books. So they are staying and I'll take home just a banker's box full.
Four plastic tubs full of toys and mementos came home today. A shopping bag full of "shred this paper" dealt with. A giant recycle bin full of paper. And then my back gave up for the day and I came home.
Many drawers in file cabinets to deal with tomorrow. Most some version of recycle.
I have to get the artwork out tomorrow and then we'll see what it looks like. The stuff is still sitting in my car at the moment because thunderstorms moved through and it is pouring too hard to get the stuff in.
